FIRST IMPRESSION

Layer after layer
of open country.

Looking across Canyonlands for the first time, the scale seemed endless—layer after layer of red-rock canyons stretching toward the horizon.

Visited by JP in September 2023. Every photograph on this page is original and comes from that journey near Moab, Utah.

TRAVEL WITH CARE

Respect the scale
of the desert.

Carry plenty of water, stay back from exposed cliff edges, and check road conditions before entering remote areas. Backcountry routes may require suitable vehicles and permits.
